 Tinubu Condemns Murder of Arise News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, Describes Incident as Cruel and Heartbreaking.


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the tragic killing of Arise News Television anchor, Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, who was fatally attacked during a robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Presidency, Tinubu expressed profound sorrow over what he termed a “cruel and condemnable act.” The President described Maduagwu as a rising star in Nigerian journalism a young and promising professional whose career was abruptly cut short by senseless violence.

The President extended heartfelt condolences to her grieving family, her colleagues at Arise News Television, and the wider Nigerian media community. He urged them to remain strong and take solace in the impactful contributions Maduagwu made within her short but remarkable career.

Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice for the slain journalist and intensifying efforts to tackle violent crimes across the country. He emphasized that no Nigerian should have to live in fear within their own home, and reiterated that the government will continue working with security agencies to strengthen law enforcement, protect citizens, and bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.

The President concluded by calling on Nigerians to honor Maduagwu’s memory by defending press freedom and supporting journalists who work daily to inform, enlighten, and strengthen democracy.
